This digital collection of the Lieutenant Ernest Perceval Papers contains autographed letters from Perceval, 88th Regiment of Foot, to members of his family from Balaklava Bay in the Crimea between 1855 and 1856. His letters describe the English campaigns in the Crimea culminating in descriptions of fraternization with Russian troops at the time of the 1856 armistice and of considerable ill-feeling between British and French troops. Included in the collection is a long illustrated poem from Perceval to his cousin, and his illustrations of scenes of fighting in the Crimea.

Drawing of sailing vessel on water, in letter from Perceval.
