The Omnibus College Scrapbook of Merle Packard contains highlights of Packard’s trip with “the College on Wheels” through the Eastern United States and Canada during the summer of 1933. Merle Packard, a schoolteacher from Alamosa, Colorado, joined Omnibus College to partake in one of the most amazing experiences available to students at the time. During her travels with Omnibus College, she toured the American South, the Atlantic Coast, Washington, D.C., New York City, and Eastern Canada, ending in Chicago at the Century of Progress Exhibition. Her scrapbook contains memorabilia she collected along the way including postcards, photographs, promotional brochures, souvenirs, letters, and other items, as well as the journal she kept throughout the tour. Merle’s scrapbook provides an informative glimpse into the America of 1933.
