This 16th century papal history is generally credited to Onofrio Panvinio, an historian and librarian at the Vatican.  It contains portraits and short biographies of popes starting from Urban VI in 1378 and ending with Gregory XIII in 1572.  There is debate whether  Panvinio compiled this book due to deliberation at the Council of Trent on the effect of images on readers and the fact that the book's coverage to 1572 extends four years after the author's death in 1568.
