This collection contains Recovery Coordinator Logbook #4 compiled during the Apollo 11 space flight, July 14-26, 1969. This was the first lunar landing and Neil A. Armstrong, Edwin E. "Buzz" Aldrin, Jr., and Michael Collins were the astronauts on the mission. This logbook details the mission recovery team's efforts to plan for visiting dignitaries on the recovery ship, the USS Hornet; ensure containment of any returning "moon germs"; and recover the returning Apollo command module, the
Columbia, from the Pacific Ocean. The logbook is part of a larger collection of NASA documents assembled by Dr. James E. Tomayko (1949-2006), a consultant to NASA and the founder of the graduate program in software engineering at Wichita State University, where he taught from 1982-1990. The full Tomayko collection may be viewed in Special Collections, lower level of Ablah Library.
