The digital collection of the papers of Hugh Gladney Grant, U.S. Minister to Albania from 1935 to 1939, contains letters, memoranda, and news releases relating to the invasion by Mussolini in April 1939 and the plight of the Jews in Albania. Most of the collection dates from 1939. Prior to his appointment, Grant, a native of Alabama, was a newspaper correspondent, a professor at Alabama Polytechnic Institute, and secretary to Alabama Senator Hugo Black. After the closing of the legation in June 1939, Grant was appointed Minister to Thailand and served in that position from 1940 to 1941. He died in 1972.
